ICT Activity - March
We begin March with a visit to one of the most important places in the UK: the Parliament.

The Palace is one of the centres of political life in the United Kingdom;
"Westminster" has become a metonym for the UK Parliament, and the
Westminster system of government has taken its name after it. The Elizabeth
Tower, in particular, which is often referred to by the name of its main bell,
"Big Ben", is an iconic landmark of London and the United Kingdom in
general, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city and an emblem
of parliamentary democracy. The Palace of Westminster has been a Grade I listed
building since 1970 and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.

FAMOUS CARNIVAL CELEBRATIONS AROUND THE WORLD

The typical Rio carnival parade is filled with revelers, floats and
adornments from numerous samba school which are located in Rio (more than 200
approximately). A samba school is composed of a collaboration of local
neighbours that want to attend carnival together, with some kind of regional,
geographical common background.
One of the many main purposes of the Rio carnival parade is for samba
schools to compete with fellow rival. This competition is the climax of the
whole carnival festival in this city.
The Carnival of Venice is an annual festival, held in Venice, Italy.
The Carnival ends with Lent, forty days before Easter on Shrove Tuesday, the
day before Ash Wednesday.
The carnival
in Venice was first recorded in 1268. The subversive nature of the festival is
reflected in the many laws created over the centuries in Italy attempting to
restrict celebrations and often banning the wearing of masks. Masks have
always been a central feature of the Venetian carnival. Venetian masks can be
made in leather, porcelain or with the original glass technique. The
original masks were rather simple in design, decoration, and often had a
symbolic and practical function. Nowadays, most of them are made with the application
of gesso and gold leaf and are all hand-painted using natural feathers and gems
to decorate.
